Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this for?
Punjabi School is built specifically for children and teenagers of Punjabi heritage living in Canada and other diaspora communities. Most of our students understand spoken Punjabi at home but cannot read or write it. That is exactly where we start. Adults who want to learn are also welcome.
What age groups do you teach?
We teach children from age 5 through 18, plus adults. Students are grouped by age and ability so your child is always in a class with peers at the same level — never mixed with much older or younger students.
My child speaks Punjabi at home but cannot read or write it. Is this the right program?
Yes — this is the most common situation among our students. Growing up in Canada, children absorb spoken Punjabi naturally but rarely learn Gurmukhi script formally. Our curriculum begins with the alphabet and builds structured reading and writing from the ground up. No prior literacy in Punjabi is required.
How are classes delivered?
All classes are held live on Zoom — the same platform most Canadian families already use. Your child needs a device with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and something to write with. We send the Zoom link before each session via WhatsApp/E-mail.
How many students are in each class?
Maximum 10 students per group. This is a firm limit. We keep groups small so every child receives direct teacher attention, immediate feedback, and stays actively engaged throughout the session.
How many classes per week?
Two live sessions per week, 60 minutes each. Consistency is what builds the habit and the progress. Two sessions per week is enough to see real improvement without overwhelming a child's schedule.
Who are the teachers?
Our teachers are qualified Punjabi language educators based in Punjab, India. Every teacher is trained specifically to work with diaspora children — meaning they understand that your child's Punjabi is conversational and English-dominant, and they know how to build from that foundation rather than assuming prior literacy. Teachers are managed through our institutional partner in Punjab to ensure consistent quality and accountability.
What do children actually learn?
Beginners start with Gurmukhi alphabet — recognition, pronunciation, and writing. From there the curriculum builds systematically: reading simple words, then sentences, then short paragraphs. Alongside reading and writing, students build vocabulary, cultural awareness, and speaking confidence beyond what they already know from home. More advanced students work toward independent reading, written composition.
What if my child misses a class?
Every session is recorded. If your child misses a class, the recording is available to review within 24 hours so they can follow along and complete the practice before the next session. Missing one class does not mean falling behind.
Is there homework?
Short practice exercises after each class — typically 10 to 15 minutes. For younger children we recommend a parent sit with them. Materials are sent digitally so there is nothing to print unless you prefer to.
What time are classes held?
We offer evening/weekends/flexible slots across Pacific, Mountain, and Eastern time zones — designed to fit after school in weekdays without running too late. When you register, we match your child to the available slot that works best for your schedule.
How much does it cost?
$100 per month for one child. There are no registration fees, no annual contracts, and no hidden charges. You pay monthly and can stop at any time.
How do I pay?
Payment is by Interac e-Transfer — simple, fast, and familiar to every Canadian family. Details are provided when you register.
How do I register?
Fill out the registration form on this page or send us a WhatsApp message at +91 81081 00008 (phone number monitored in Canada). We confirm your child's class group and time slot within 24 hours and send you everything you need to get started.
How long before I see progress?
Most children can recognize and write the Gurmukhi alphabet within the first four to six weeks. Reading simple words follows shortly after. Progress depends on how consistently your child attends and practices between sessions, but families typically notice a meaningful difference within the first two to three months.
Do you offer classes for adults?
Yes. Adults who want to learn to read, write, or improve their Punjabi are welcome. Adult students are placed in separate groups from children so the pace and content is appropriate for their level.
Is the curriculum endorsed by any institution?
Our curriculum is developed in partnership SRSC College Patiala — the foremost institution dedicated to deliver quality education.
